Join Opareta as a Senior Analytics Engineer

Senior Analytics Engineer

At Opareta, we are building digital infrastructure and tools to rethink how mobile money agent networks operate. Our platform is designed to help mobile money agents digitize their operations, access data insights, and gain access to working capital and other products to grow their businesses sustainably.

The data team is expanding and we are looking for an experienced analytics engineer to join it, working closely with the Head of Data and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making. “Users First” is the cornerstone of our operating principles at Opareta, and in this role, you will own the data modeling layer that powers analytics, reporting, and data products across the company. You will play a pivotal role in shaping how trusted, well-documented, and performant data is made available to everyone who depends on it.

If you possess unwavering curiosity, a drive to tackle complex data challenges, and a passion for supporting users, all while being excited about joining a rapidly-growing team and company, we’d love to hear from you.

This position is fully remote.

About you

  • 5+ years in a similar position
  • Deep expertise with dbt (or an equivalent modern data modeling tool): you write modular, tested, well-documented models and think carefully about layering (staging, intermediate, marts)
  • Fluent in SQL: you know the difference between SQL that works and performant SQL
  • Experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.) and GCP or AWS
  • Strong grasp of data modeling fundamentals (dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, event-based modeling, etc.)
  • Comfortable with software engineering practices: the command line, Git, code review, CI/CD, and automated testing
  • Knowledge of Python and/or R
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication, and presentation skills
  • Curious: you love experimenting and don’t rest until you find the “why” and “how”

Bonus points

  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards and reports in tools like Tableau or Looker, and a point of view on how a semantic/metrics layer should expose data to them
  • Experience with data orchestration tools like Airflow, as well as ingestion and reverse ETL tooling
  • Knowledge of statistics, with a baseline understanding of designing, running and evaluating A/B tests
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML methods including classification, clustering, time-series forecasting, and NLP.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • (Advanced) degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Math, CS)

You get to

  • Own and evolve Opareta’s data modeling layer, exposing clean, trusted, well-documented data to the whole company for analytics and advanced data science use cases
  • Establish and champion best practices for analytics engineering — testing, documentation, code review, versioning, and CI/CD — so the data team can move quickly without breaking trust
  • Partner with data analysts to translate business questions into robust, reusable models, and with data engineers to shape the raw data that lands in the warehouse
  • Help build the infrastructure to track key business metrics, and make those metrics consistently available across reports, dashboards, and data products
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven insights and improvements in business processes

If you are interested in joining our team but don’t tick every box, we still encourage you to apply. We are building a diverse team whose skills, experiences and background complement one other. We are happy to consider where you might be able to make the biggest impact.

Opareta is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity. All qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, race, orientation or religion are encouraged to apply.
